Darth Maul is a fearsome Sith Lord who first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, the first of the Star Wars prequels.

Trained by Darth Sidious (later Emperor Palpatine), Maul was a master of various martial arts and used a distinctive double-bladed lightsaber. His weapon, along with his tattooed red and black skin, and horned head made him a very intimidating figure.

In The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul served as Sidious' enforcer, battling Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Though he killed Qui-Gon, he was ultimately defeated by Obi-Wan, seemingly falling to his death down a shaft. However, as revealed in later media, Maul survived and continued to be a prominent antagonist in the Star Wars universe.
